Helping Kids Ride: Kiwanis Bike Rodeo Returns to Lawrence

For many children, a bicycle is more than just a way to get around — it’s freedom, confidence, exercise, and joy. This spring, the Kiwanis Club of Greater Lawrence is proud to once again host our Kiwanis Bike Rodeo, a community event focused on bicycle safety, education, and access for children throughout the Merrimack Valley.

What Is the Kiwanis Bike Rodeo?

The Kiwanis Bike Rodeo is a fun, hands-on event where children learn how to ride safely while building confidence on their bikes. Kids participate in an obstacle course that simulates real-world riding situations, helping them understand:

  • Rules of the road
  • Safe riding habits
  • Balance, control, and awareness

With support from the MassDOT Safe Routes to School program, trained volunteers guide children through the course and reinforce important bicycle safety skills in an encouraging environment.

Event Details

More than 1,000 children from Lawrence and surrounding communities are expected to attend.

Bikes, Helmets, and Repairs for Kids Who Need Them

In addition to safety education, the Bike Rodeo helps ensure children have access to safe equipment. Our goal is to:

  • Provide 150–200 new and refurbished bicycles
  • Give every child a brand-new helmet
  • Repair children’s bikes on-site so they can ride home safely

For many families, purchasing a bike or helmet can be a challenge. This event helps remove that barrier and ensures kids can enjoy the benefits of riding safely.

How You Can Help

To make this event possible, we are raising $20,000, with every dollar going directly toward bikes, helmets, parts, and event costs.

Here’s how your donation helps:

  • $120 provides a bike and helmet
  • $100 provides a bike
  • $20 provides a helmet
  • $24 provides bike parts for repairs

Every contribution — large or small — makes a real difference in a child’s life.

Get Involved

There are many ways to support the Kiwanis Bike Rodeo:

  • Make a donation
  • Encourage a business to sponsor a bike
  • Volunteer on event day
  • Share this post with friends and family

Why It Matters

A bicycle encourages healthy activity, builds independence, and creates confidence. For a child, receiving a bike can be a moment they remember forever. With your support, we can help more kids ride safely and experience that joy.
